Maximize Summer Fun with Summer Workouts

Warm weather is finally getting here! Is your summer body where you want it to be? It is never too late to make some changes and start enjoying all the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, including having an amazing body for all of those summer activities!
Leading up to summer, we usually shift our workout focus to accommodate our active summer lifestyle. We love the water and much of our summer is geared around the lake and water recreation. During the summer we enjoy stand-up paddleboarding, wakeboarding, wake surfing, and mountain biking.
To perform these activities at an optimal level, our summer workouts in the gym include tons of functional movement, strength training, and balance work. Structuring our workouts around our favorite summer activities and putting the work in at the club allows us to enjoy these activities more and reduces our risk of injury. The functional movement workout below will help your body perform optimally this summer.
Perform as a circuit doing each exercise back-to-back and resting after all exercises have been completed. Complete 3 rounds. 
  • Barbell Overhead Squat 12-15 repetitions  (be sure to keep your load manageable and your core engaged throughout this movement)
  • Battle Rope Waves 30 to 45 seconds (Level Up- perform this exercise while standing on a balance board)
  • Inverted TRX Rows 12-15 repetitions
  • TRX Push-ups 12-15 repetitions
  • Battle Rope Slams 30 to 45 seconds
  • Kettlebell Turkish Get-Ups 10 per side
  • Toes to Bar 12 (Scaled version- knees to chest)
Do not forget to factor in your nutrition! The fuel you feed your body aids you in performing at your best. Be sure you are getting plenty of lean protein, green veggies, complex carbohydrates, and water to fuel your workouts and activities. So, what are your favorite summer activities?
